Our course offers staff training in a range of risk-assessed strategies to support people accessing vital healthcare treatment and care.

Clinical holding is a planned restrictive practice used to facilitate the delivery of essential medical treatment, routine care, or necessary procedures when a patient is unable to comply with practitioner requests. This approach is typically employed to ensure the well-being of individuals who may be unable to provide informed consent due to age or intellectual disabilities.

Clinical holding exists on a continuum of interventions, ranging from verbal guidance and handholding to more restrictive measures, such as physical, mechanical, or pharmacological interventions. While its application may be distressing for the individual, it is implemented only after thorough consideration of legal, ethical, and professional guidelines. The primary goal is to act in the best interest of the patient while upholding the highest standards of care and dignity.
